In fifth grade we learn a lot about American History and how we gained our independence from Great Britain.  We'll also learn about Exploration, the Civil War, the World Wars, Westward Expansion, and the Civil Rights Movement.
In science, we'll learn about heredity, electricity, magnets, matter, and land forms.
We will continue building upon our knowledge of multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, perimeter, area, and expand that to include volume, measurement of irregular shapes, positive and negative integers, the Cartesian Coordinate System, and basic algebraic expression.
As always, our writing ability should increase in quality and quantity.  We will write in various forms, our vocabulary and spelling will improve, and we will become more fluent readers.

Fifth grade is a wonderful time for students to begin to know their own mind.  There will be many opportunities for student choice and the natural consequences that follow; good choices will bring rewards while bad choices will make those rewards disappear.  Independence and accountability are a major focus in fifth grade.
